GYMNASTS MAKE CLUB HISTORY
From 24th-26th October 2008, the club took part in its first ever International Competition (Gutenberg Cup) in Mainz, Germany. Due to an injury in one partnership we ended up taking two pairs with us and was hoping that we would gain some valuable experience from participating in such an event.
There were 7 countries taking part and over 200 hundred competitors, with the age group (11-16yrs) competition taking place on the Friday and Junior and Senior FIG on the Saturday.
Jessica Bradwell and Bethany Thompson were up first on the Friday with an optimistic target of finishing in the top 6. However, with two amazing routines they beat off a strong field to take the title and become the clubs first ever International competitors and Champions. WELL DONE GIRLS.
Tad Skubala and Bethany Kelly were up next on the Saturday and had a tough field with experienced acrobats from Belgium in their group. After two routines they finished with the Bronze medal.
Well done to both our pairs who are now working hard to represent the club for the first time in The British Tournament at the end of November, along with 3 other partnerships in the club.
A BIG thanks to Claire who judged for us, Gemma who was our team manager and Kathryn for coaching the pairs. A special thanks goes to Bennett’s (www.bennettsangling.com), sponsor’s of our team jackets.
